The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the manufacturers of Tylenol, claiming the firms withheld safety concerns that the medication posed to children's neurological development.

This legal action follows thirty days after Donald Trump promoted an unverified association between using acetaminophen - alternatively called acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism in offspring.

The attorney general is taking legal action against J&J, which once produced the drug, the only pain reliever suggested for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which presently makes it.

In a statement, he claimed they "betrayed America by profiting off of discomfort and marketing drugs regardless of the dangers."

The company states there is no credible evidence connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These companies misled for generations, knowingly endangering numerous people to line their pockets," Paxton, a Republican, stated.

The company said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the perpetuation of misinformation on the security of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of US mothers and children."

On its website, Kenvue also stated it had "regularly reviewed the relevant science and there is lacking reliable evidence that demonstrates a established connection between taking paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups speaking for medical professionals and health professionals share this view.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has declared paracetamol - the primary component in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for expectant mothers to treat discomfort and fever, which can pose significant medical dangers if not addressed.

"In multiple decades of studies on the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has conclusively proven that the usage of acetaminophen in any stage of gestation causes brain development issues in children," the association stated.

The lawsuit references current declarations from the former administration in asserting the drug is potentially dangerous.

Recently, the former president raised alarms from medical authorities when he advised women during pregnancy to "resist strongly" not to take acetaminophen when sick.

The US Food and Drug Administration then published an announcement that physicians should contemplate reducing the use of acetaminophen, while also mentioning that "a direct connection" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in young ones has remains unverified.

Health Secretary RFK Jr, who manages the FDA, had vowed in spring to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would determine the cause of autism in a limited time.

But experts cautioned that discovering a single cause of autism - considered by experts to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of inherited and surrounding conditions - would not be simple.

Autism spectrum disorder is a form of lifelong neurodivergence and disability that impacts how people perceive and relate to the environment, and is diagnosed using physician assessments.

In his court filing, Paxton - aligned with the former president who is campaigning for the Senate - claims the manufacturer and J&J "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case seeks to make the companies "remove any commercial messaging" that asserts Tylenol is reliable for pregnant women.

This legal action mirrors the grievances of a collection of guardians of children with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who sued the makers of Tylenol in 2022.

The court dismissed the lawsuit, saying studies from the plaintiffs' authorities was inconclusive.
